Myrtle Beach SC photographer Michele Coleman

Since childhood I have always felt a deep need to create pretty things. I've dabbled in many art forms, from painting and sketching, to poetry and writing. I discovered my love for taking pictures in a darkroom black and white photography class while studying Journalism and Graphic Design in college. Once I had a camera in my hands I never really put it down. I had finally found my ultimate creative outlet. After years of shooting just for fun I took my passion to the next level and opened my first studio in 2007. In just three short months it became my full time career. Since I began this journey I have experienced so much, met so many amazing people, and have had the honor of having my work hanging in homes all over the country. I love to create for people and there is no greater affirmation that I am doing what I was called to do than when the work I create warms hearts, boosts confidence, and fulfills a need.

After 10 years of running my studio in West Virginia, I made a HUGE life decision to relocate to the Myrtle Beach area. The beach and southern hospitality were beckoning me. I also really wanted a change of scenery and to downsize. In March of 2017 I started my new adventure in South Carolina. Starting over in a new area has it's challenges, but I very blessed to still be doing what I love, in a place that I love. Creative people I think just need to scale things back at times, to get back to the root of their passion. That's where I am at right now. I have narrowed down my specialties, become comfortable with a smaller office instead of a huge studio, and embraced my new scenery and community.

I love living here, working here, and exploring all that this area has to offer. I love the people and the vibe. It's the change I needed. I hope you'll become a part of my journey. What can I create for you?

There are a million photographers out there. You have a lot of choices. Endless choices. I always say find a photographer who's work you really connect with. You need to love how they compose, how they light, how they edit, and you should enjoy the experience.

If you look up the meaning of the word photography, it is defined as the process of creating images through chemical action of light. Without light, you can't make a photograph. Without good light you can't get flattering images and color. I've spent many years learning the craft of professional photography, practicing and experimenting with light sources, taking classes and workshops, learning from peers in the industry. I've invested a lot into the cameras, lenses, and lighting gear I use to make sure that I give my clients amazing results. I also see things with an artistic eye and edit my images in an artistic way. Your final images are perfected for the best possible color, contrast and sharpness. I don't outsource my editing so you are getting my artistry from start to finish.

I approach Wedding photography with the mindset of a storyteller. You can call it photojournalism if you like. Being a wedding photographer and a portrait artist, I mix both into my wedding work. I strive to capture all of the fleeting moments of the day from start to finish. The small details, the quiet moments, the big moments, all of it. I also love to set up beautiful shots of the couple throughout the day to create stunning wedding portraits. My goal as a Wedding photographer is to deliver my clients a set of images that truly have them reliving their wedding day. I want my clients to look at their images and feel that all of the planning, stress, and money spent was worth it. :)

When photographing a portrait of someone my goal is always to show personality and to capture that person or group of people in the best possible manner. This includes close attention to lighting, posing, background, and all small details in the shot. Types of individual portraits that I do include headshots/commercial portraits, high school seniors, and fashion/modeling shots. Types of group portraits I do include families and team shots for companies.

Event photography is something I really enjoy. I've shot company parties, conferences, award ceremonies, birthday and anniversary parties. My journalism background and passion for storytelling come into play here.

Commercial photography is also a genre that I have experience in. I've shot for many magazines and companies. The work I have created has been used for websites, billboards, marketing materials, and more. Whether the location is in an office setting, on a construction site, in a warehouse, or outside on location, I love the challenge of showing up to a job site and creating amazing images with what is available. My wide range of equipment allows me to be mobile and set up a makeshift studio anywhere.

I love to travel and explore new places, chase sunsets, have great conversations with friends, browse antique stores, love on my dog and cat, collect seashells, make crafts, spoil my niece and nephew, and dream. Lots of dreaming. My feet are firmly planted but my head is definitely in the clouds. I believe that life really is beautiful and I try to soak up and give out all of the good that I can.
